R. FORD PARK
Named for former president of the United States, the Gerald
R. Ford Park and mphitheater is the largest park area in
Vail. The park has 39 acres and is located at 530 South
Frontage Road. It has three ball fields, a playground, bike
paths, tables for a picnic, a field for soccer games or
Frisbee, and eight tennis courts. The Ford Park consists of
the outdoor amphitheater, the Vail Nature Center, and the
Betty Ford Alpine Gardens. The Ford Amphitheater can host
an event with seats for over 1200 people with an additional
grassy seating area that can hold another 1300 people. The
grass seating area is open on a first come-first serve
basis. Parking is on a limited basis at the venue. Free
summer parking is available a short distance away at the
Village and Lionshead parking lots. The highest botanic
gardens, the Betty Ford Alpine Gardens, is named for the
former First Lady. Funding for the gardens began in 1985
and was named to honor Betty Ford in 1988. Admission to the
gardens is free. The Alpine Garden in Vail has over 2,000
blooming plants.
